You land in Delhi, open your home Uber app, and book a ride. A driver accepts. Ten seconds later, your phone rings. The driver asks: "Cash or Pay?" If you say "Card" or "Online," they hang up and cancel the ride.
Why this happens: Ride-hailing companies take up to a week to deposit digital earnings. In a cash-flow-heavy job where drivers need to buy fuel daily, they refuse digital trips.
How to Guarantee Your Ride
- Change your payment method to Cash before you even request the ride.
- The UPI Loophole: If you have Cheq UPI set up, tell the driver "I will pay UPI direct." They accept this immediately because you scan their personal QR code, bypassing Uber's payout delay entirely.
Uber vs. Ola vs. Rapido
- Uber: Default for tourists — no Indian number needed. Best for airport runs.
- Ola: Often cheaper with more cars available, but requires an Indian number to log in.
- Rapido (Bike Taxis): Costs pennies and weaves through deadlocked traffic. Do not use this if you have luggage, and female travelers should avoid using it late at night.
